小助理:做外贸,要的就是真心换真心
以前认为做外贸就是跟外国人沟通,也正是这样的以为,毕业后,我毅然选择了外贸行业,应聘到了外贸行业的公司工作。2个月后,我接到公司的第一个任务——接待客户。
刚接到这个任务时,我既喜且忧,喜的是公司这样信任我,给我这个机会,也让我一尝做陪同翻译的愿望,忧的是我的词汇不够丰富,怕不能及时听懂客户的意思。
后来,老板告诉我,这次接待的是我们公司一位关系很好的大客户的外甥女,任务就是陪客户到服装批发市场上批发衣物,为她在马来西亚的新店备货。于是在出发前,我在手机上下载了一个英语词典,方便随时查单词,也在网上搜索了很多关于衣物类的单词、专业名称和做采购的注意事项等等。
到了那天,我雄心勃勃的出门,和老板、经理一起去酒店接这位外国友人。她叫NaNa,大约二十来岁,出来时带着一副黑色眼镜,穿着打扮透露出个性和自信。同行的是她的朋友YA。她很有礼貌地跟我们打招呼,和老板闲聊几句后,我和经理带着她们开始了广州采购之旅。
经理是位地道的广州人,熟悉广州的交通,而我,是个地道的路痴,虽然在广州生活二十几年,却连广州几条主干道都说不出来。在经理旁边,我安心地坐着,思考着怎样打破车内的宁静。我本身是个比较慢热安静的人,平时很少主动跟别人说话,但是作为“东道主”,我有义务踏出这一步。于是,我壮了一下胆,主动问了一下她们有没有休息好,觉得中国怎么样等问题。本以为她会礼貌性地跟我说it is ok 之类的客套话,没想到NaNa很认真地跟我说了很多她来到中国的感受。我顿时爱上这个真诚开朗的女孩了。话匣子打开后,车上顿时热闹起来了。
很快,我们来到了第一个目的地--白马国际中心。这里有各式各样的服装批发。本以为之前准备好的词汇可以大派用场,没想到NaNa她们已经做好功课,对需要采购的东西已经了然于心,根本不需要我作过多解释。当然,我还是需要留意什么时候需要帮她们问价讲价,记录下每个问过价,买过东西的商铺号,方便之后查找(在这里必须感谢经理提醒,不然,当时还是菜鸟的我肯定只会在一旁单纯做翻译。)NaNa是个很有主见的人,对衣服饰品有独特的见解,不过,她也会时不时问我们意见,有时还会调皮地拿衣服在我们身上比划比划。
都说女人逛街不会累,比起NaNa,其他女人真的是“微不足道”。我们从早上开始一直到下午三点,中间从不间断,要不是经理提议了两次先吃午饭,我想她们是可以一直逛到晚上的。吃完午饭后,我们又继续开始“长征”。NaNa和我们分享了她开店的想法,更告诉我们她在马来西亚曾经参加过各种比赛,其中更包括选美比赛,上过很多次报纸,更向我们展示了关于她的新闻图片和视频。当时,我只想说“小伙伴们都惊呆了吧” ,原来我跟大马明星在一起啊。
在接下来的几天里,我们几乎走遍广州所有的服装批发市场,我们也安排了时间让她们体验广州地道节目——夜游珠江。到了最后一天晚上,为了让我和经理好好休息,老板下班后过来替我们接NaNa她们去机场。我们互相拥抱道别后,NaNa拿出为我们准备的小礼物,原来是她们在逛市场的时候买给我们的,当时她还特地不告诉我们,而且她们知道经理喜欢Hello kitty,还特意准备了一份Hello kitty的礼物给经理。那一瞬间,我再也hold 不住了,眼泪哗啦啦地流,这几天的点点滴滴一直在脑海盘旋。NaNa见状,拍拍我肩膀说,别这样,我回去会call 你的,也会把新店的照片发给你。We will keep in touch. 我哭得更凶了。
现在回想起来,当时真是挺糗的。但是令我感受更深的是,当你真心对别人的时候,别人也会真心待你,无论对方什么身份。如果当时我只是简单把接待她们当作一项工作来对待,我想,我当时的表现会淡定很多,不至于在这么多人面前流眼泪。但是,如果没有全身心投入,我想,我收获不到这份难得的友情。
I used to think that being a foreign trader is to communicate with foreigners, and thus I chose to work at foreign trade industry after graduation. I was employed by a foreign trading company, and after two months I got my first mission assigned by the company—receive customers.
At the beginning of accepting the task, I was both glad and worried. I was glad that the company trusted me enough to give me such an opportunity, which would make my dream of becoming an interpreter come true. And I was worried that I might have no rich vocabulary and I might not understand the customers timely and clearly.
Later on my boss told me that we were going to receive the niece of a big customer that had a great relationship with our company, and that my job was to accompany her to the wholesale market to buy clothes, so as to prepare the goods for her new store in Malaysia. Before we headed off, I downloaded an application of English dictionary on my cell phone so that I could look up to words conveniently. And I had searched for many words, terms about costume and issues buyers should know online.
On that day I set off confidently to the hotel to pick up the foreign friend with my boss and manager. Her name was NaNa, who was about 20. She came out wearing a sunglass, and you could tell that she was stylish and confident from her dressing. She was with her friend YA. She greeted us politely, and after she talked to our boss, I and my manager started the purchasing trip in Guangzhou with them.
My manager was a native in Guangzhou, who was very familiar with the transport in this city, while I had no much sense of direction, who could not even name several main roads in Guangzhou after more than twenty years' living in the city. I sat silently beside my manager, thinking about how to break the ice in the car. I was a relatively quiet person who seldom took the initiative to talk to others. But as a "host" I felt obliged to do so. So I plucked up and asked if they had a good rest and how they felt about China. I thought she would just respond with "it's ok" polity to me, but she sincerely talked about her feelings in China, which made me feel good about this sincere and outgoing girl. Since we talked, the car hotted up.
We arrived at our first destination soon—Baima International Center. There are all kinds of costumes for wholesales. I thought it was a good time for me to use my well-prepared words, but NaNa and her friends had done their work and were clear about what they were going to buy, and there was no need for me to make much explanation. Of course I would still need to bargain with them and write down the number of the shops where we had made enquiries and bought things, which would facilitate future searching (I have to thank my manager for reminding me to this, or as a newbie, I would have probably acted just as an interpreter at that time). NaNa was an inner-directed person who had a special taste for costumes. But she would ask us for opinions from time to time, and she sometimes would put the clothes to us for fun.
People say that women will never get tired when shopping, but I thought all ladies were "unqualified" compared with NaNa. We shopped from the morning to 3pm In the afternoon without resting, and I believed that they could just keep shopping like that until the night if it were not for my manager who suggested that we should have lunch twice. After the lunch we restarted the "long journey". NaNa shared her thoughts of opening a store with us, and she told us that she had taken part in all kinds of contests in Malaysia including beauty contests, and that she was covered in newspaper for many times. She showed us the picture and video of news about her. At that time I was so amazed to know that I was actually with a star from Malaysia.
In the following days, we almost visited all the wholesaling markets in Guangzhou, and we had arranged a plan for them to have a localized experience in Guangzhou—have a night tour of the Pearl River. On the last night my boss took NaNa and her friend to the air port for us so that I and my manager could have a good rest. We hugged each other and said goodbye, and NaNa took out the gifts she prepared for us, which were brought when visiting the markets and she didn't tell us. She knew that my manager liked Hello Kitty so she prepared a gift of Hello Kitty for her. And at that time I was no longer able to withhold my emotions and I cried with all the memories of those days in my mind. NaNa clapped me on my shoulder and told me not to cry and promised that she would call me after she got back home and that she would send me the pictures of her new shop. She said: "we will keep in touch". But I cried even more sadly.
Recalling those memories now, I feel a little bit awkward. But my deepest feeling is that when we treat others sincerely, they will also treat us sincerely, regardless of the identities. If I had treated them just like implementing a task, I might not be so moved to shed tears in front of them at that time. But I believe that I would never have this special friendship if I didn't treat them with my heart.

森磊贸易:我说句实在话,等到有一天1楼客户多了,会觉得应付这种客户非常非常累,尤其是陪逛街陪吃饭,现在你舒服你高兴是因为你经历太浅,对方是客户的女儿也是没什么经验,不过有这么美好的一个开端对你以后的路总归是好的。作为老外贸来说,楼上有人提到的客户来板房指点一下就走了,这种客户是最好的,真正的客户是不会有时间逛几天市场的,他们行程,时间排得都是很满的,一半到工厂说说重点就走的了。祝你成功。
