On Friday, December 24th, I will celebrate Christmas Eve with my family. Our Christmas Eve celebration is based on the Feast of Seven Fishes, an Italian tradition commemorating the wait for the midnight birth of Jesus or Vigilia di Natale. For many of us, the religious aspect does not weigh as heavily as it did for the generations before us, and frankly, I think most of the younger people simply relate to the festivity. Whatever the reason, the evening is filled with food, music, and laughter, and that, for me, is the best!
Christmas Eve also kicks off a week of family visits, parties, impromptu celebrations, and an overall festive feeling. The “holiday season” will end on New Year’s Day, January 1st, and as of January 2nd everyone is back to business as usual
