'Excuse me, I think you've given me the wrong change'
或者 'Sorry, I think this change is wrong. I gave you $20, not $10.'
    在酒店里
房间的调温器坏了:'Excuse me, but there's a problem with the heating in my room.'
'Sorry to bother you, but I think there's something wrong with the air-conditioning.'
失窃了:'I'm afraid I have to make a complaint. Some money has gone missing from my hotel room.'
房间没有整理:'I'm afraid there's a slight problem with my room - the bed hasn't been made.'
    当人们发现自己错了而道歉,一般都会说SORRY,然后再提出把事情做好的解决办法。
比如对应上面对调温器的投诉:'Excuse me, but there's a problem with the heating.' 或者
'I'm sorry - I'll get someone to check it for you.' 或者 'Sorry to hear that - I'll send someone up.

xiaomao47:The Really Big Apology
We all make mistakes. The best thing to do is to admit it, apologize, and make amends. Never hide a mistake. Instead, let the customer know as soon as possible. Customers understand that people and organizations can make mistakes. And if you correct it and delight them with GEMs, they will know that if a mistake ever occurs again, you can fix it.
Explain and Don'tExcuse the Mistake.
» It's best to say it in person, second best to say it on the phone, and the least desirable option is to say it in writing.
» Immediately explain the mistake, simply and completely ?no excuses, no finger-pointing, no penalties to anyone.
» Take responsibility for your organization and yourself. Even if it was another employee'sfault, accept the responsibility as a member of your organization. Accept your organization accomplishments and disappointments.
Apologize profusely.
» Say it directly, sincerely, and with heartfelt regret: "I'm sorry." Then say it again.
» Allow the customer to react. If the customer is upset, take your lumps. Apologize again, and remain silent. Show humility.
Offer or request options.
» Have several options ready to provide the customer, then offer them.
» If not accepted, or you don'thave good options, ask the customer:
"How can we make this up to you?"
» Solve the problem quickly.
» Be flexible and pay for the mistake. The customer and your reputation are worth it!
Offer a GEM and offer to follow up.
» Give a GEM in addition to the options you provided or that the customer requested.
» Follow up. Check on customer satisfaction. Call back. Write a personal follow-up letter.
Prevent the mistake from occurring again.
» Make permanent changes to prevent the problem from recurring.
» Work with your manager and your team to change bigger issues.

xiaomao47:Why Apologies Are Not That Useful Anyway
Even if someone were of a mind to apologize, they probably wouldn’t, and maybe they shouldn’t. They probably wouldn’t because they are not likely to be believed. And maybe they shouldn’t because, if they were to be believed, they risk having their candor exploited.
Why is an apology not likely to be believed? Because seasoned participants in mediation are wise to the game. They know that mediators are trained to view financial issues as proxies for underlying emotional issues, and that many mediators believe that resolution of the emotional issues will make it easier to bring parties together on financial terms. So, trial lawyers will now commonly tell mediators in private caucuses:
That apology was very nice, but we didn’t believe a word of it. We think they said it only to try to soften us up on the money. It won't work. We don’t believe their little stunt. We still want what we believe the case is worth.
An apology which is perceived as having been made “for consideration” is, as many commentators before me have noted, meaningless. In the context of a mediation, an effort to negotiate resolution of a litigated case, it is difficult to have an apology be perceived in any other way.
Moreover, even the most sincere apology is subject to exploitation. There is always a risk that the plaintiff’s side will hear this Mea Culpa and say, “thanks for giving us our litigation roadmap, We’ll see you in court.” If the mediator has done his or her job right, the atmosphere is set to minimize this risk. But not even Abraham Lincoln could guarantee that a plaintiff will take a sincere apology in the spirit in which it is offered and respond with charity, not malice.
