最近每天都来逛外贸路,每天都分享着大家的故事。看得出有不少人因为金融危机给工作带来的影响心情很失落,今天我想和大家分享一件比较快乐的事,希望我能把这份快乐传达给大家。
不知道大家有没有碰到这样的客户呢?上周我从ECVV上收到了一个美国客户的询盘,询盘内容相当简单,也就是被大家公认的那种没有什么价值的虚盘:this is all very nice,but what is the price? 但我还是一如既往非常认真的回复了。这一次我没有直接给他发我们产品的报价单,而是简单介绍了我们公司情况后就要他去我们网站上看下对我们哪款产品感兴趣,具体要订购多少,这样我才可以给他一个具体的报价。过了几天客户一直都没有回复。这样的情况对于我来说已经习以为常了,我相信对大家来说也一样。大概一周后当我刚上班把MSN登上后系统提示我收到一封邮件,我很兴奋的打开我的邮箱,邮件上说我们的产品是很不错的,我们大多数的中国产品也是不错的,但是就是我们的销售技巧还很欠缺。看到这样的邮件我仿佛比收到一个询盘更加高兴,于是我很快就给他回过去说我今年刚毕业,没有什么实践经验,确实还有很多东西要学,总之就是很诚心向他请教销售的一些技巧,第二天正赶上美国的感恩节了,虽然我不确定这个热心的人是不是美国的(他给我MSN邮箱发的邮件署名和ECVV上询盘的署名不是一致的,所以我不确定,一直到后来他更正我对他的称呼我才知道原来这是同一个人),我还是给他发了一封感恩节祝福的邮件,发过后就开始期待他的回复了。第二天他果然给我回复了,邮件中表示非常乐意教我,拿他的话说就是没有让老师比遇上了一个求知若渴的学生更开心的事了,并且还帮我更正了我对他的称呼(他在询盘里的署名是William,所以我就在邮件中称呼他William,没想到他说这样称呼是很正式的,即使是在很普通的朋友间也很少用。他发在我MSN里面的署名是Bill)。通过他这次的邮件我还了解到他是个退休的外科医生,但对做市场一直都很感兴趣,尤其是研究人们做每件事的心理,他还说现在感恩节他们在度假,假期完了再给我回复。
我上班启动电脑后第一件事就是打开公司邮箱,看看有没有人给我回复邮件或者收到新的询盘,我想几乎所有的外贸同胞都有这样的习惯吧,呵呵。那天我一如既往马上打开OUTLOOK,突然我看到了那个熟悉的名字,于是迫不及待打开邮件,给我的第一感觉是邮件很长,我一口气把它读完,心里一阵感动。因为我可以从他的字里行间看出我们这个美国客户是个非常认真谨慎和睿智的人,我也能感觉到他的那份友好与真诚,另外给我的感觉是他思路很清晰,措辞组句都很精辟。我以前经常听人说英语为母语的人往往都不怎么注重语法,反而是我们特别强调语法,因此我特意很细致的把他的邮件又读了3次,至少我没有发现任何一处语法错误。我想即使是那种专门从事语言研究的人都很难做到这一点,虽然他们意识里很清楚这个时态或句型是怎样的,但是也有失误或粗心打错字的时候,所以从这一点我就可以看出他写过后肯定仔细检查过。其实我也有这个习惯,因为我觉得这是对对方一种尊重。就凭着这一点我就觉得自己得到了对方最大的尊重。尽管他提的一些想法我们老总在给我们开会时也反复跟我们说过,但是我仍然很感谢他,因此我也很用心给他回复了邮件,当然首先就是非常感谢他给我提出的宝贵意见了,然后针对他给我提出的每一点建议我也给出了自己的想法,我想对方看了后也能感受到我的真诚的。
亲爱的路友们,你们有没有碰到过这样的客户呢?一直都觉得自己很幸运,虽然我自今年毕业以来开始做外贸到现在都没有接到过单,但是我还是对自己充满信心,我一直相信付出会有回报的。虽然回报你的可能不是订单,但是还可以收获其他一些也同样重要的东西,你们觉得呢?

ECVV 是一个B2B网站。可能你们对Alibaba,globalsources,made-in-China,tradekey这些更熟悉一些,我注册是免费会员,虽然偶尔会收到一些询盘,但质量都不高,一般都是问报价的,我报了价后他们也几乎销声匿迹了。

I have a good friend who is a Chinese businessman whom i am always correcting and at times making fun of. He knows I am trying to help him and doesn't appear to mind.
Well to begin with, your photo layouts are actually pretty good. The verbal copy,however, looks very much like a foreigner composed it(which of course they did) from a dictionary. It reminds me of the early Japanese stuff that came into the country; pretty bad grammar. They seem to have learned pretty rapidly, and no one is laughing now. I remember an incident when Coca Cola began marketing in China and tried to translate the expression into Chinese,"drink Coca Cola". Somehow it came out "Bite the wax tadpole". I suppose the message here is that you need some one writing your copy who is fluent in contemporary American syntax and Idiom, i.e.,an American. for example, your salutation was not really a "mistake", but merely a very fine point.
Another thing you need to do is define your target groups; who are you trying to sell this stuff to? For night vision gear I would at least consider groups like sportsmen,US military, corporate military (such as Blackwater and several others), police, para military, etc.). Then you need to define their respective professional publications and advertise in them.
In your ads you need to state prices on everything, showing immediately that you are competitive. You need to be intimately familiar with your product as well as your competitor's, but never "badmouth" their product, just point out points of superiority of your products.
That's about all I can think of for now. Maybe I'll come up with more later. By the way what is an MP5? The only one I know of is a German submachinegun. While it might keep her warm, she might get in trouble with it. While I'm on the subject, don't mix up "wish" and "hope". It would be much better to say " I hope she likes it ". I occasionally make mistakes like that when I'm trying to compose something in German.

Your opinions on marketing our products are absolutely terrific!I couldn't agree more,thank you very much for giving me so precious suggestions.
As for your 1st point on our English verbal copy,acutally all of which were translated by our salesman.Our English is not good enough,especially there are so many professional words on our products among them,so we can't composed it perfectly.As a matter of fact,before translating the Chinese version to English version,we had refered to some US websites which aslo specilize in night vision gears like ATN,you must know it.We imported some Gen 2 and Gen 3 night vision units from it,not directly,but from its agent in Russia.It's of high quality without any doubt,and state-of-the-art as well.
Regarding your 2nd point on target groups,i totally agree to what you said.At the very begining,we just send our Promotional Letters to our potential customers who are the suppliers,agents,wholesalers or trade company handling night vision units.But we found our target groups are too limited,so we expand our target groups to those who deal in telescope,outdoor products,gifts,military or army products like military clothes,hats,shoes and so on.Our night vision gears can be both for civilian use and army use.Generally speaking,our Gen 1 are mainly used for some outdoor activities among private persons,such as fishing,boating,camping,climbing,viewing at low night,i heard they are very popular among children in your country,they also can be used as birthday or festival gifts between friends.We believe the world at night is totally different from daytime's.Your country is highly developed,so to some degree,the way you think is much more unique,people in your contry can accept something new more quickly.However,in some remote areas,our Gen 1 night vision are not so easy to be promoted there if it is only used for outdoor entertainment.While Gen 2 and 3 are almost used for military,police,custom observation.Most of points were our president came out with, he is acutally a very far-sighted person with tactical and broad thought,i guess this is exactly what made him our boss.
You said we should define their respective professional publications and advertise in them,you got a point there,sounds pretty good!I'll advise our boss about it.Do you have any ideas about some professional publications in your place?
Do you know mp3 or mp4?In fact,mp5 is something like that,but its compatibility is better than mp3 and mp4.We can download songs from internet into our mp3,mp4 and mp5,but mp3 can't support watching movies,both mp4 and mp5 can,and when we download the movies into our mp5,we needn't converting format.But for mp4 sometimes we have to do that.They are quite portable,easy to carry.I'm crazy about English songs andmovies,So it brought me lots of joy for my life.What are you usually do in your spare time other than doing some study on marketing?

Before getting back to you for the first time,i had gone through your email for 3 times,and just now i read one more time,i found that i still omitted some points.
Firstly,you suggested us to find someone who is fluent in contemporary American syntax and idiom to write our copy.I'm sorry to tell you that it is a little bit difficult for us to do so.In China,there are indeed plenty oftranslation companies,but i don't think their translation is good enough,some of translators only translate it literally,they are not familiar with our industry,so perhaps they don't have good knowledge of lots of professional expressions particularly relating to technical parameter.I also heard about the primal Chinese expression on Coca Cola.So i know how important a nice copy is.We'll try to modify them better.If you found any mistakes in our copy,please feel free to point it out to us.
Secondly,you said never badmouth our competitors' products,you are totally right.If i were a purchaser,one of our suppliers is always keeping badmouthing others, products or service,i won't buy anything from him or her.I hate his or her way to market the products.So please feel assured i'll be always bear in mind.Also,when our president held the meeting with our salesman,he usually stressed this point over and over again.Maybe this is so-called Great minds think alike,you and our boss are really something!
By the way,you mentioned you sometimes composed something in German,so German is your second lauguage?You was a physician as you told me,so you must be very knowledgable,and of course,let alone a foreign lauguage.I like English very much,i began learning it at junior high school,though i have learnt it for years,i still have a long way to go to master it.I actually have been trying to polish up it.In my spare time,i often watch some very classical English movies,such as Forrest Gump,Gone with the Wind etc,sometimes,i learnt some nice English songs as well.English is a very beautiful lauguage in my heart.Right now i'm enjoying using it.It's amazing,lauguage is really powerful! I really enjoyed talking with you,a friend who is far far away from me.

非常谢谢你的建议。因为我们产品很特殊,其实美国的客户几乎不可能从我们这进口,尤其是我们2,3代的产品,他们在夜视行业的技术很发达,反而我们要从他们国家进口。所以只要是美国的客户我们一般就判断为只是来探价的,所以我给他回复时并没有给他报价,况且他的询盘只是一概的问我们所有产品的价格。不管怎么样还是谢谢你诚恳的意见。如果用到其他国家客户身上我确实需要按照如你所说的去做。

一个新加坡的客户说昨天给我们打款,可是昨天一直都不在线,于是我就给他留言说please advise us the moment you TT,等我快下班时他终于上线回我了,他说他太忙,明天TT给我们,谁知道他今天又一直没在线,在我们前几天谈产品时他却是一直在线,而且还很热心和我聊他的什么研究的。大家的客户也是不是一到要付款就开始玩失踪啊。这可是我做外贸来的第一个单,还不是样品单,这个客户只是因为个人爱好所以想从我们这买一台产品做研究。我也只是想在今年年底实现0的突破呀!

miraclehappens:客户终于打款了。
今天我那个新加坡的客户终于打款了。本来还一直担心他这两天怎么一直不在线,以为他也像路友们说的很多客户那样,等把P/I发过去后就开始玩失踪了。不过当客户告诉我他TT is done 后我还是稍稍松了一口气,现在就只要等公司确认货款是否到帐然后发货了,希望等客户收到我们的产品后觉得很满意,我想这样才算圆满。不管怎么样,今天还是有一丝丝的兴奋的,因为马上就要打破今年0的记录了。

之前在广交会上我遇到两个很有趣的老外,当时我们正忙整货,电话响了,他们正好经过就接了,但是他们只会说你好,电话那头说什么他就重复,很搞笑。
